John Steffensen, BComm, FCMC

Mr. Steffensen specializes in job evaluation, compensation research as well as related personnel systems, including performance management, incentive planning and pay for performance systems.

His background includes extensive experience in both the public and private sectors. Clients in the public sector have included provincial government departments, crown corporations, municipalities, regional districts, cities, hospitals, health care, educational and other public institutions. The private sector has included clients in cellular telecommunication products, heating ventilation and air conditioning products and services, food processing, oil and gas, petro-chemicals, tourism, banking and credit unions. Mr. Steffensen has worked in a consulting capacity with a number of native groups and organizations in Canada.

In the area of market and business feasibility studies, he has significant experience in the assessment of feasibility of four season resorts, hotels, motels, transportation companies, agricultural ventures, manufacturing, recreation development, and other tourism oriented concerns. He has conducted a wide range of survey work resulting in the development of marketing strategies and marketing plans for a variety of concerns including events and attractions, civic departments, provincial departments, crown corporations, and private entrepreneurs.

Mr. Steffensen has taken the project management role in a wide range of large and/or complex studies. His experience in the management of multi-disciplinary project teams will be a major factor in the successful completion of an assignment of this nature.

Immediately prior to joining Western Management Consultants and becoming a Director, Mr. Steffensen was a partner (in Edmonton) of William M. Mercer Ltd., one of the major national consulting firms, responsible for their western Canadian consulting practice. Prior to consulting, he was with the Department of Supply and Services as the Assistant to the Regional Director for Manitoba. With Canada Manpower and Immigration, he was an Assistant Staffing Officer in the Prairies Regional Office.

Mr. Steffensen holds a B.Comm. (Hons.), majoring in marketing and economics, from the University of Manitoba. He is a Fellow and the Past President of the Institute of Certified Management Consultants of Alberta, Past Chairman of the Tourism and Travel Research Association (TTRA) Canadian Chapter, and has recently retired as Vice Chairman after six years as a member of the Board of Governors of Grant MacEwan College.
